SMALL FORMS

Be my guest!
The Sztuka 6 Art Festiwal, where I had pleasure to exhibit my works, took place on Smocza 6 in September. You will read about this event here in a week, in my report from the exhibition. Today I'm gonna show you my 11 designs, which you could see live. Here we go.

Thing, from which everything started, total change of concept: I took the material, which I used in sewing dress in 2015 (you can see it here) and I started to make, pin-up, cut... Then I saw in that way I was getting completely different, more interesting solutions and that's how I was gonna design my collection. I had made 18 prototypes and I was going to sew them later. I knew from the beginning that these are supposed to be small things, so I was searching little mannequins and I found Monster Hight dolls without heads with movable ponds and removable limbs. They measure only 23 cm and they are deformated in the right, for me, direction: bent back torso and elongated legs. Ideal solution, package arrived in express speed, gold paint had been waiting for them for weeks. Unfortunatelly. probably rubber parts of dolls didn't like the acrylic and even after few months it's still wet and makes fingers dirty.

I had so much time for making the exhibition it couldn't be me, if I hadn't done everything in the last moment. One week before the festival I decided to find fabrics in colors, which mastered Fall/Winter season instead of statuesque and antique white, which colud turn out quite boring. I made prototypes from few different kinds of materials, so besides hues I had to think about stiffness and thickness too. In this way I bought two silks and one velvet. As far as the first fabric was amazing in work, second wasn't good for small clothes. Because of that I had so much troubles with that, it was shreding, literally, and it was impossible to make my favourite jumpsuit according to my project. Fortunately, nothing lost, what I didn't managed to sew, I'll sew in some time.
My mannequins are really deformated and what goes behind, after taking measures and placing the material I had to do patterns for a corset or a skirt on my own. It's so good an exercise and preparation to sewing for yourself and that's why if you are a beginner, I recommend starting your sewing journey with little clothes. Obviously, the best, when you are precise and you've got an angel patience, it's pretty sure it would make you a little bit frustrated. Sewing every design took me about 4 hours and although these are little things, I ironed out everything before and after piecing together, when it was possible.
Carmen is a one-shoulder silk dress in warm eggplant hue, with a train and a leg beginnig from thigh's half. From the sleeve, material is running down, it's draped twice on the hips line and it's making characteristic folds. Tight leg is sewed with an indoor stitch, what is contrasting with numerous diagonals running along dress' length. It reminds the style of broken robes, characteristic for late gothic art. Ideal for the Oscars night!

Dolly is a no shoulder silk dress with a subtle tied on the neck. It's like taken out from Disney's Enchanted. Sewed only in one place fabric creates two asymmetric edges wrapped in different ways, what gives it volume. Stylish and unique, it needs only elegant gold sandals.
Daisy is a long velvet tuba dress in the color of saturated green bottle with a large reference of sleeves to the 80's and wide Armani's marines. Large wrapping on the arm is completing a smaller one on the wrist. Thanks to that it's similiar to wristband, characteristic of the baroque men's fashion. High bun, Swarovski jewellery and high heels, for sure, would add some chic.

Princesa is a long overlap train dress perfect for the ball. Thanks to edges, sewed with a zigzag, belts, which are hiding breast gain an original frayed finishing. High-waisted flared skirt with an asymetric front balances expanded up with a huge neckline. It needs only beautiful high-heeled sandals and you can present yourself on the great gala.
La Poulie is a short coctail dress sewed from two wheels of soft velvet, what gives it volume. Fabric placed on the arm makes a sleeve, which, despite the motion, do not show too much. Frayed edges in the low part give dress a rock character; black tights with high suede or varnished boots could be a complement.
La Nui is a mid-calf tuba dress made from blue-gray silk. Deep and wide neckline connected with a small cut is a great composition with sewed from wheels big flared sleeves on the bust line. High pinned up hair and that outfit extends the figure and give a chic.
Classica is an original silk jumpsuit like taken out just from the 70. High waist and long subtle expended legs build simple and stiff form of trousers. Overlap top is narrowing with every next frill, so back and dense stitches on the hips line are uncovered. Wheel, which is sewed to the golf is causing that fabric is softly floating, it balances a whole thing.
Disney is a silk jumpsuit  inspired by fairytales dresses with wide legs and loops for fingers in the middle of length, and instead of the skirt you have trousers. Amazing, isn't it? Bottom is completed by asymetric top with pointed corners. Uncovered back is crossed by ribbons that connect parts of fabric and criss-cross on the neck. It makes an impression!
Batsi is a draped coat connected with tight top and high-waisted trousers. Creased flaps of silk are glistening on the outside and the inside is completed by two different legs to the ancles. Short blouse ended under the bust line and austere little neckline is an ideal composition with long tight sleeves. Background for tight parts of this outfit is flare at the bottom and some kind of collar on the top.
Nui is a short tight bat dress, its
standing collar reminds Dracula! Only the fangs are missing... High collar is ending up at the same point deep neckline has its beginning. Notches on shoulders in wide sleeves to the wrists make whole thing much softer. Bloody red lipstick is pleased to meet that dress.
Volant is a long silk dress, which begins on the bust line and ends up... somewhere. Plain front contrasts with back covered with running in many different ways stitches. Shoulder is crossed by standing frill, which encircles the whole torso. It gives statuesque character and spanish style. Now you only need to learn how to move in this design ;)
You saw 11 designs, which are my first mini-collection. Sewed all day and night it had been taking my sleep, but it was worth of effort. Why? About that you can read in a week. Tell me in comments below what do you think ;)
